About July First Fridays

This July First Fridays we will be celebrating “Classic Downtown” with a Studebaker Car Show, an Antique Bicycle Display, tours of the Historic Hoffman Hotel, a walking tour of the Historic West Washington District, and a chance to paint Studebaker Trucks at our newest First Fridays location: GALLERY 2910.

Also don’t miss a Shrimp Boil at Chicory Cafe, Latin Dancing in Studebaker Plaza, and another evening of music, art, dancing, and FIREWORKS at Meet Me on the Island.

NOTE – The fireworks will be set off from the Jefferson Bridge, so it will be closed from 7:00 p.m. to midnight for the setup, display, and removal of the fireworks.

Free Parking

Parking (on-street and in DTSB-managed garages) is always free in downtown South Bend nights and weekends. For full details on downtown parking options, click here.

Free Transpo Shuttle

As always, Transpo will be offering FREE shuttle rides on one of their new CNG buses from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Click here for a map of the shuttle route. Transpo shuttle service will pass each stop approximately every 15 minutes.

The shuttle service now has First Fridays Tour Guides! They will tell you all about the different activities and promotions that are taking place downtown at First Fridays, as well give general info about the downtown businesses, mixed with historical tidbits and fun facts. Grab a seat on the new First Fridays Transpo Tour, and enjoy the informative ride!

Members of the Studebaker Drivers Club will be bringing their cars to display in the Baer’s Parking lot (located on Michigan between Wayne and Western.)

Downtown South Bend Architectural Walking Tour –  SOLD OUT

Enjoy a fun and informative guided walking tour of the beautiful West Washington Street area, a National Register District showcasing an exemplary and eclectic blend of architectural styles and structures. Tours are given by the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County. Cost for these 90-minute tours are just $4/person (cash only.) Antique Bicycle Display

Gridiron Parking Lot

Members of The Wheelmen – a national, non-profit organization dedicated to keeping alive the heritage of American cycling – will be bringing an array of antique bicycles to the Gridiron Parking Lot this First Fridays. There will be a variety of bicycle types, ranging in age from 1876 to 1915. They will be demonstrating how to ride these high-wheel bikes and more.

Artists You Should Know: Beth Floyd Each month GALLERY 2910  will feature a different artist for your enjoyment with complementary light refreshments. The artists’ work is always for sale and artists are available for commissioned orders. The July “Artist You Should Know” is Beth Floyd.
Energy Friday: Start off your month with their Energy Friday and align yourself with your greatest desires. This holistic art lab features a different modality each month. Practitioners will be available for mini sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Denny Snyder at Fridays by the Fountain

Denny Snyder will be the performing at the July 6 Fridays by the Fountain. The Morris Performing Arts Center presents Fridays by the Fountain on the Jon R. Hunt Plaza, in front of the Morris Theater, from June to August. A free outdoor lunchtime concert series, Fridays by the Fountain is a summertime tradition in downtown South Bend. Bring your own lunch or purchase food from nearby food vendors or from one of the many downtown eateries.

Meet Me on the Island at the Century Center

The South Bend Museum of Art presents Meet Me on the Island featuring art on the island and music by Shake n’Chill. There will also be fireworks at 10 pm, presented by Visit South Bend/Mishawaka. Admission $5 (kids under 12 get in free.) SBMA and WVPE members will receive tickets in the mail. NOTE – The fireworks will be set off from the Jefferson Bridge, so it will be closed from 7:00 p.m. to midnight for the setup, display, and removal of the fireworks.

People’s Choice Awards at Fire Arts

Fire Arts Inc. is excited to invite the public to view this year’s annual juried show, The Vessel.  This show features three dimensional work in clay, stone, metal, and mixed media emphasizing the vessel. A total of 39 unique pieces created by 24 artists are represented.  The public was invited to vote on their favorite between the June 1 show opening and July 6. The People’s Choice Award will be announced at 7 pm this First Fridays. Light refreshment and hor d’ouevres will be served. This exhibit will be running through July 28.
