Outdoor Film Series

Join us during the summer's second Saturdays outside on the Gridiron for free movie nights! 

The Outdoor Film Series is presented free to the community by DTSB and The South Bend Chocolate Cafe. This series is a successful partnership bringing a tradition usually found in large city centers to this thriving urban environment in the heart of South Bend.  Screenings are free to the public and held at the Gridiron at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m. – weather permitting). Viewers are invited to bring their picnic blankets, chairs and snacks. Themed pre-movie activities begin at 7:00 p.m.

2018 Outdoor Film Series Schedule 

 

Jumanji| Saturday, June 9th | 7:00 p.m. | The Gridiron (next to the Chocolate Cafe - 122 S. Michigan St)

Join us on the Gridiron on June 9th for a FREE viewing of the original Jumanji.

The pre-movie activities start at 7:00 p.m. and the movie begins at dusk (approx. 9:30 p.m.) Free parking is available on street, in the parking lot behind chocolate cafe, and the Leighton Garage. 

The South Bend Chocolate Cafe will have a concession stand for this event, with popcorn, soda, water, candy, and Ben's Pretzels. The following pre-movie activities will take place starting at 7:00 p.m.:

*Play a life-sized board game for free in the Gridiron parking lot for a chance to win prizes.
*Visit the DTSB Glitter Tent to get your hair, face, or arms glittered for just $5 an area.
*Visit The Pigeon & The Hen Pottery to paint animal-themed clay cookies for $5 each.
*Visit the Fun By The Yard balloon twisting booth for animal shaped balloons (small fee)
*Get your face painted like an animal at the Behind the Mask face painting booth (small fee)
*Color some animal-themed coloring pages (free)
*Enter to win free Cubs tickets at the DTSB Tent
*Get a FREE freezer pop at the DTSB Tent

The Incredibles | Saturday, July 14th | 7:00 p.m. | The Gridiron (next to the Chocolate Cafe - 122 S. Michigan St)


Bring your blankets or lawnchairs and join us on the Gridiron on July 14th for a FREE viewing of The Incredibles - on the heels of the June release of The Incredibles 2 in theaters everywhere. 

The movie will begin at dusk (approx. 9:30 p.m.) and the pre-movie activities will begin at 7:00 p.m. Free parking is available on street and in the Leighton Garage.

The South Bend Chocolate Cafe will have a concession stand for this event, with popcorn, soda, water, candy, and Ben's Pretzels. The following pre-movie activities will take place starting at 7:00 p.m.:

*Decorate your own Superhero Mask and get fun giveaways at the Physician's Urgent Care booth (free)
*Try the Superhero Training Obstacle Course brought to you by Beacon Health System (free)
*Participate in the Superhero Skill Contest at 8:00 pm (what's your hidden superhero talent?) (Free registration starts at 7:30 pm at the DTSB booth; prizes will be awarded for both a kids division and an adult division)
*Participate in the Superhero Costume Contest at 8:30 pm (dress as any superhero or make up your own!) (Free registration starts at 7:30 pm at the DTSB booth; prizes will be awarded for both a kids division and an adult division)
*Visit the Fun By The Yard booth for superhero balloon twisting (small fee)
*Visit The Pigeon & The Hen Pottery to paint superhero-themed clay cookies along with all-time favorites ($5-$15)
*Color Incredibles coloring pages (free)
*Visit the DTSB Glitter Tent to get your hair, face, or arms glittered for just $5 an area.
*Enter to win free Cubs tickets at the DTSB Tent
*Get a FREE freezer pop at the DTSB Tent

Coco | Saturday, August 11th | 7:00 p.m. | The Gridiron (next to the Chocolate Cafe - 122 S. Michigan St)

Bring your blankets or lawnchairs and join us on the Gridiron on August 11th for a FREE viewing of "Coco" - the 2018 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature.

The movie will begin at dusk (approx. 9:10 p.m.) and the pre-movie activities will begin at 7:00 p.m. Free parking is available on street and in the Leighton Garage.

The South Bend Chocolate Cafe will have a concession stand for this event, with popcorn, soda, water, candy, and Ben's Pretzels.

We will also have a variety of themed pre-movie activities taking place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Celebrate Coco and learn about Day of the Dead traditions:
*Create paper cempasúchil (marigolds), the traditional Day of the Dead flower, with La Casa de Amistad (free).
*Decorate papel picado, an essential part of a traditional ofrenda, to honor your loved ones (free).
*Join our community ofrenda (altar) by adding the names of those who have passed to our display (free).
*Enjoy a music selection featuring classic songs from Latin America's most prolific musicians (free).
*Visit The Pigeon & The Hen Pottery to paint sugar skull clay cookies along a variety of other objects. Visit the glitter fairy for some added flair! ($5-$15)
*Enjoy an SJCPL storytime, featuring sing-along songs and a book, Sing, Don't Cry, by Angela Dominguez at 8:30 p.m. (free).

Additional activities include:
*Play our version of hot potato  - "Pass the Pan de Muerto" (a sweet bread traditionally eaten during Day of the Dead celebrations) 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (free)
*Visit the Physician's Urgent Care booth to color Coco coloring pages and play the prize wheel for a chance to win fun giveaways (free.) They will also have coupons for $10 off school and sport physicals.
*Visit the Fun By The Yard balloon twisting booth (small fee)
*Enter to win free South Bend Cubs tickets at the DTSB Tent
*Get a FREE freezer pop at the DTSB Tent
