Centier Bank, the largest family-owned bank in Indiana, has opened their 55th office right here in downtown South Bend. Now located on the first and second floors of the JMS building, which underwent renovation after over 100 years, this downtown location includes a full-service banking branch as well as investment, mortgage, and corporate lending services to better serve the South Bend area. A 24-hour ATM can also be found in the lobby.
The JMS building, the tallest building in the city upon its completion in 1910, has been under renovation valued at $7.6 million. Prior to becoming home to Centier Bank and Studebaker Loft Apartments, the historic space once featured a barbershop, a cigar store, and a different bank, from which a large walk-in vault remains in the basement.
Now in its 122nd year, Centier Bank is managed by President, CEO and Chair of the Board Michael Schrage, the fourth generation of his family to operate the bank since it first opened under the name Bank of Whiting in 1895. Centier is growing rapidly statewide, with locations in eleven Indiana counties and plans to continue expanding their service across the Hoosier state. In addition to their recent downtown opening, they have also opened a Granger branch this month at Heritage Square and plan to open locations in Goshen and in the Meijer on Portage, South Bend.
“We have great relationships with our clients,” stated Centier Bank Community Market President, Steve Watts. “Thanks to them, [there is higher] demand for additional offices to support our growth. Now, we are connecting a strong network of Centier locations for the convenience of our clients and to address all of Michiana’s banking needs.”
The official ribbon cutting for the new branch took place on August 17th, where key members of the downtown community attended to welcome Centier. Centier has also generously made a $1,000 donation to the South Bend Heritage Foundation in celebration of their opening.
The downtown area is excited to welcome Centier and their beautiful new branch to the neighborhood!
