DTSB events attract bustling crowds and curious eyes to the heart of South Bend, and it is the helping hands of DTSB volunteers making events successful. Come help create the space for strangers to come together as friends, for the cries of laughter emanate from gleeful children, and for the city you love to thrive.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Santa’s Elves

Santa needs many Elves to assist with the holiday festivities in downtown South Bend. Volunteering as one of Santa’s Elves is a great chance to spread holiday cheer! Gather your friends, family, or coworkers and sign up for a shift, or you can come alone.

You may be asked to give children their cookies, icing and sprinkles – and/or to clean up the mess that cookie decorating often leaves behind. We will also be needing Elves to provide information and hospitality, and assist with the line to see Santa Claus.

To view all shift dates and times, and to sign up, click here.

We will do our best to give you the task that you like the best, but you may need to be flexible depending on where we need our Elves the most at any point in time.

And of course our Elves will need proper attire, so you will get a free elf hat for volunteering at this event!

Elves should check in for their shift at the South Bend Museum of Art – in the hallway between the galleries, where the cookie decorating will take place. Some volunteers will be inside, and some will be outside (we will rotate those positions around.) Please dress accordingly for the cold.

Note: We accept elves of all ages, but those under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

First Fridays: Tour Guide

We are looking for fun, outgoing volunteers who want to entertain and inform by being a tour guide for First Fridays Transpo Shuttle tours. Tour Guides will be emailed a list of talking points in advance that include:

-information on the restaurants, attractions and shops that are along the route

-information on the activities and promotions that are going on that evening

-fun facts and historical tidbits about downtown South Bend

We will give a brief training session beforehand. Come make South Bend memorable for tour goers with your humor and charisma. You’ll be sure to leave the experience with good stories and laughs.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

If your business, club, or student organization would like to volunteer at one of our events, or if you’d like to plan a group volunteer day, please contact Kylie Carter at [email protected] for scheduling.

Thank you for making Downtown South Bend, Inc. events and programs possible!
