COMMUNITY ART PROJECT
Each year, Art Beat invites members of the community to get in touch with their artistic side for the day, by way of the Community Art Project.
Art Beat 2024 will feature two Community Art Projects, both located in/near Kid Beat. Participation is free and open to visitors of all ages and skill levels. Guided instruction and all materials will be provided.
RELIEF PRINTING
The first is a relief printing project presented by the South Bend Museum of Art, in collaboration and promotion of their new screen-printing classes. Visitors will receive Styrofoam to carve their artwork into which will then be rolled with ink and pressed on paper. SBMA will display the prints at Kid Beat as they are being made and are drying. The prints that are donated or not picked up will create a community mural that will be displayed at the SBMA for the year.
SOCK DANCER
The second project will be creating artwork on a new wind sock dancer. We did a similar project for Art Beat 2019 and that completed wind sock has been dancing at First Fridays and other events ever since. We decided to make a friend for him for Art Beat 2024! Visitors will trace their hand on to the wind sock dancer, and then decorate and sign it.
