Area Business Owners Invited to Destination Business Expert Jon Schallert’s Second Presentation in Downtown South Bend on Augus

July 20, 2012 — Business owners in South Bend and surrounding cities are invited to hear nationally-known Destination Business Expert Jon Schallert’s second presentation in downtown South Bend on Wednesday, August 8, at 8:30 a.m. at the Center for History’s Wiekamp Auditorium, 808 West Washington. Schallert will present his acclaimed business improvement session, “Increasing Sales and Profits as a Destination Business”, made possible by Visit South Bend Mishawaka; Downtown South Bend, Inc.; Stanz Foodservice, Inc.; and DoubleTree by Hilton.

Schallert’s session teaches independent business owners how to turn their businesses into consumer “destinations” that attract customers from many miles away, past other competitive outlets. The workshop also shows businesses how to get local consumers to spend more money locally, and how to stop “retail leakage”. Schallert’s consulting firm, The Schallert Group, Inc., is noted for providing competitive tools to independent business owners that are typically used exclusively by large corporate chains to dominate a marketplace.

In today’s economy, “the challenge for any business today, regardless of its location and surrounding demographics, is to create such a compelling offering that it is repeatedly visited by consumers. For a business to be a true destination, it must draw customers both locally and from out-of-town,” says Schallert.

The 90 minute session is free and open to area businesses and attractions. Seating is limited and reservations are required by Friday, August 3. Reserve your space by calling Nicole Lawler at 574-400-4020 or via email at nlawler@visitsouthbend.com.

In addition to the presentation, Schallert will individually visit the seven downtown shops and restaurants owned by individuals who attended the Destination BootCamp in Longmont, Colorado, as part of a community reinvention program in June. After Schallert’s first visit to downtown South Bend in April, these business owners – Kathy Reddy White of CircaArts Gallery, Jeanne Skelton of Inspire Me!, Becky Reimbold of Just Goods, Mark McDonnell of LaSalle Grill, Peg Dalton of LePeep, Ann Rudasics of Made in Michiana, and Larry Piser of Piser Designs – decided to attend the BootCamp.

Schallert has been working with independent business owners since 1983, and contributes his business strategies to national publications like the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Entrepreneur Magazine. Schallert speaks and consults with thousands of entrepreneurs annually.
