Downtown South Bend, Inc. Awards 5 Special Events Grants
April 30, 2012 — Downtown South Bend, Inc. (DTSB) is pleased to announce the awarded applicants for the 2012 Special Event: Creative Capital Enhancement Grant. The five events that were chosen to be awarded $1000 each include: AIDS Assist of North Indiana’s Rooftop Rendezvous, Bike the Bend, Center for History’s Pioneer Days and Cabin Days, Michiana Celtic Festival, and Urban Adventure.
The grant was developed to allow downtown South Bend event organizers the funds needed to purchase or create items specific to their event that will positively impact the experience for event-goers. Funds were awarded based on the impact, creativeness, size, and scope of the event taking place in downtown South Bend. Fourteen applications were received.
DTSB Executive Director Aaron Perri explained, “We wanted to empower other organizations to apply for creative items that would enhance their event year after year.”
To help draw awareness to Rooftop Rendezvous, AIDS Assist North Indiana will purchase a 20’ tall inflatable gorilla. Rooftop Rendezvous takes place at the Wayne Street Parking Garage on August 24. The gorilla will be made available to other organizations following its debut at Rooftop Rendezvous.
Bike the Bend on May 20 will have a new and very distinguishable inflatable arch spanning the width of two lanes of a city street. This arch will be made available to other organizations for use at their events.
The Center for History will now have a larger-scale historical covered wagon that will be used annually at Pioneer Days June 16 and 17, and at Cabin Days in October. Both events take place annually in Leeper Park West near the historic Navarre Cabin.
Mary Queen of Scots will ride in a sedan chair carried by her minions at this year’s Celtic Festival to be held in Howard Park on September 2. In addition, event-goers will be to take part in the new interactive Brehon Law exhibit and Piking School.
This summer the Urban Adventure Games will utilize funds for enhanced checkpoint signage. These signs will be easily identifiable for each division. The Urban Adventure Games are scheduled for July 28.
