SBCT's 2012 Summer Camps will be HOT – Register Now!

April 20, 2012 — Want your kids to turn their “monkeying around” into constructive fun? Are your kids eager for learning new skills – tap dancing, improv, even talking Shakespeare? Are they ready to take the full plunge and experience the fun of putting on a full blown show? South Bend Civic Theatre has the answers this summer – Summer Camps for kids!

South Bend Civic Theatre will hold summer camps giving students opportunities to have fun and explore theatre with experienced instructors. Kids K-3rd grades have week long, half day camps getting creative with jungle creatures, monsters, and the deep blue sea. 4th-6th graders can acquire special skills with workshops in tap, improv and even make their own commercials. 7th-12th grade workshops include improv, acting for the camera, and an introduction to Shakespearian acting culminating in an opportunity to see this year’s performance by the Young Company of the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival.

New This Year!!! If musical theatre performance is what you want – we’ve got the camp for you! Just like summer stock students will learn the entire show – blocking, music and choreography in two weeks with a performance at the end for family and friends. Working with veterans Claire Peterson, Josh Napierkowski, our Director of Education Sara Bartlett and area choreographers, students 4th thru 6th grade students will perform the popular show “Disney’s Aladdin Kids” and students 7th thru 12th will perform “Fame Jr.” the play all about teenagers in the famous NYC School for Performing Arts!

Numerous studies have shown the importance of arts education in giving students skills needed for successful development. At South Bend Civic Theatre, we are committed to giving young people top flight theatre classes designed to teach these skills while learning abilities that will serve them in all walks of life and having fun doing it! From confidence in public speaking, to creative problem solving, and from gaining discipline to learning to work with others on projects, theatre does more than entertain!
